How to Use and Care for Your Kohaku Yoga Mat
How to Use and Care for Your Kohaku Yoga Mat
Usage Instructions
- Please avoid vigorous movements or strong impacts, as they may cause the delicate fibers of the tatami to fray.
- Not suitable for Hot Yoga or Heated Yoga. Tatami tends to absorb sweat, which may lead to deterioration. We recommend using the mat for traditional yoga practices or styles that don’t involve heavy sweating.
Before First Use
The Kohaku yoga mat is crafted using a traditional mud-dyeing technique, so there may be a slight residue of mud on the surface. Please gently wipe the mat with a towel before use.
Storage Instructions
- Store your mat in a well-ventilated area to prevent moisture buildup, which can lead to mold growth.
- Avoid direct sunlight to maintain the natural green color of the tatami. Prolonged exposure to sunlight or excessive drying may cause discoloration and potential damage.
- Over time, the tatami may naturally change color, developing a unique and beautiful character. Embrace this transformation as part of its charm.
Care Instructions
Regular Cleaning
- Wipe the mat along the grain of the tatami using a cloth that is wrung out well. Avoid excess moisture to prevent dark discoloration.
If the Mat Gets Wet from Sweat or Water
- Wipe it with a towel and dry it in the shade.
Moisture Control
- Regularly ensure proper airflow around the mat to prevent moisture buildup, which can lead to mold growth.
Handling Stains and Mold
- If spills like coffee or sauce occur, wipe them off quickly to prevent stains.
- In a humid room, if mold appears, gently remove it with a soft toothbrush, then wipe with a cloth sprayed with disinfectant. Once dry, vacuum the surface and store in a well-ventilated area.
For Marks Left by Furniture
- Place a towel over the area and use a steam iron to gently remove the indentation. Avoid this method while the tatami is still green, as it may cause discoloration.
If the Tatami Starts to Fray or Tear
- Trim any loose ends with scissors, then gently press and massage the area with your fingers to help it blend back in.
